As soon as we arrived at the Octopus Resort, I saw a small table near the bar. There was written that tomorrow early in the morning everyone who wants can sign up for climb to the mountain with a local guide. I had no hesitation that we just have to do this. The only problem was that I didn’t have right shoes (only my flip flops) and there was no place where I could buy them…
…but I was in Fiji and people here are just incredible friendly. One local girl from the staff looked at my feet and after a few minutes she brought me her shoes. I still can’t believe that they were absolutely my size! So I had good shoes and was ready to climb.
The morning was really beautiful – the sky was completely cloudless, the light breeze from the ocean swung slender palm trees… So we began our trip. I honestly thought that we’ll climb to one small hill from which we’ll see the great panoramic view and that’s it, but just I thought so. The mountain which we were going to climb was over 900 meters high (!) and I was really not ready for this adventure.
You have no idea how hard it was. I thought that I’ll threw up at least ten times. It was unbearably hot (sweat flowed in streams), we were going quite fast, so it was no chance to stop for a longer rest. I breathed so loudly that perhaps the whole mountain echoed. It seemed that I’ll faint at any second. But all that time I’ve repeated to myself that I can’t give in, that I have to do this somehow. And I did! After great suffering, I finally climbed up to the very top of the mountain. And you know what? it was definitely worth it. The view just took my breath away…
